5 year partnership signed between Revolution and Sports Prototype Cup.

5 year partnership signed between Revolution and Sports Prototype Cup.

The new Sports Prototype Cup, managed by PitBox91, has signed a 5 year agreement with Revolution Race Cars. This will guarantee that the all-new car has its own promoted ‘Revolution UK Trophy’ running as a lead promoted category within the Cup.

James Bailey of Sports Prototype Cup said: “The Cup was created to provide ‘races within the race’ for defined classes of sports prototypes. We worked closely with Revolution Race Cars in designing the race format and we were proud to launch the Cup and the car together at Silverstone last month. To go a stage further and commit to a 5 year partnership is an important step. It provides the teams and drivers investing in the Revolution the confidence that it will form the Cup’s lead class, called the Revolution UK Trophy, for a long term period”.

The first round of the Revolution UK Trophy will be on Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit on April 27th with a double-header race.

  • 16 races on 6 weekends

  • Mix of formats from 20 minute sprints to 50 minute mini-endurance races

  • Revolution UK Trophy and Radical SR3 Trophy to share grids at each round. The Sports Prototype Cup has revealed more details of its inaugural calendar. The 2019 season will feature races at six different circuits, beginning at the Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit on April 27th and concluding with an end of year festival at the demanding Autodromo Algarve in Portugal.

The exact race distances will be announced shortly, but the outline plans are as follows:

  • Two of the circuits (Silverstone and Oulton Park) will host one day events, featuring two races of between 25 and 40 minutes.

  • The other circuits will host two day events with three races. One of these races will be a 50 minute event.

James Bailey, Sports Protototype Cup Promoter, said: “We’ve listened to both existing owners of Radical SR3s and buyers of the new Revolution Race Car. Both groups of customer have asked for a mix of formats to spice up the season. The longer 50 minute race can be tackled with two drivers or just one driver. We will publish the definitive formats in January when registrations open for the 2019 season”.
